in the spotlight

Me, constrastedThe image on the right happened the night after I returned to my hotel room after the ZeBBie Awards in Dublin.

Perhaps there was a version of “I feel pretty” playing in my head, as I don’t get the opportunity to dress up often.

This started as a blurry picture of me without my glasses (rather appropriate), and as I do sometimes I began mucking around with the image. Of course I should have gone to bed, but after the buzz of a party I wasn’t in the humour to sleep.

I ended up looking a bit like a comic book character, which dovetails nicely with what I’m writing at the moment.

Which leads me on to a big thank you to Jenni Hill and the fabulous women at the superb UK feminist web site Bad Reputation, for their two-part interview with me. This is the first time anyone interviewed me as a writer, which is one of the small milestones that is both pleasing and humbling.

You can read them here: Róisín Dubh, Demons, and Bicycles: an interview with author Maura McHugh (Part One) and Róisín Dubh, Demons, and Bicycles: an interview with author Maura McHugh (Part Two).

So far the feedback from those who’ve read the first issue of Róisín Dubh has been positive, which is gratifying. Thank you to everyone who has bought the comic so far. It means a great deal to the team.
