2014 Laydeez do Comics meeting
Lynda Rucker and I are organising another Laydeez do Comics meeting from 2pm onwards this Saturday in the Odessa Club in Dublin. Our guests will be C.E. Murphy, Philip Barrett, me, and Paul Bolger. We’re also celebrating being on the cusp of the holiday season, so bring along a wrapped comic book for our blind comic book swap – come with one comic and leave with another! Everyone is welcome! Pop along, listen to the speakers, meet the Irish comic book community, and get your comic book fix on!

D.I.C.E. 2014
This weekend the third Dublin International Comics Expo (D.I.C.E) is taking place in Pembroke Square, Dundrum Town Centre, Co. Dublin, and I’m delighted to be attending as a guest. It’s the first time I’ve been able to go to D.I.C.E – I was out of the country for both previous events – so I’m looking forward to checking it out. The convention is featuring a ton of fantastic guests from Ireland, the UK, and the USA, including talent scouts from Marvel, DC, and 2000AD who will be conducting portfolio reviews. Plus, there will be panel discussions at the Screen 2 of Movies@Dundrum on a variety of topics. Here’s my schedule:…

Shamrokon schedule
Tomorrow marks the start of Shamrokon in Dublin, the European science fiction convention (Eurocon) which is held in a different country each year. Here’s my schedule: Made In Ireland: Fantasy Classics By Irish Authors: Friday 15:00 – 16:00, D. Ulster Le Fanu Track: Vampire Lovers – Le Fanu and the Silver Screen: Saturday 15:00 – 16:00, C. Munster Le Fanu Track: Dracula vs. Carmilla: Saturday 16:00 – 17:00, C. Munster Women of 2000AD: Sunday 12:00 – 13:00, C. Munster Golden Blasters: Sunday 14:00 – 16:00, B. Lansdowne…

ArcadeCon 2014
ArcadeCon is taking place in the Ballsbridge Hotel this weekend, and I’ll be dropping by for a couple of panels and to chat to people. I was a special guest at ArcadeCon last year, and it was one of the friendliest conventions I’ve ever attended in Ireland – chock-full of fantastic cosplayers and fans who are passionate about genre media. Here are the two panels I’m on: 3pm on Saturday, Ballroom: Representing Geeks: Prejudice, Privilege, Power 4pm on Sunday, Ballroom: We Are Irish Comics It should be a fun weekend!

Solstice signing at Sub-City Comics
Thanks to Rob Curley at Sub-City Comics in Dublin, and the fabulous PR crew at Dark Horse Comics, I’ll be doing a signing of issue 1 of Witchfinder: The Mysteries of Unland at Sub-City Comics at its new location at 62 Dame Street, Dublin, Ireland 2, on Saturday, 21 June from noon – 4pm. I’m looking forward to chatting to people about the comic book on the day! I only wish my co-writer Kim Newman, and our artist Tyler Crook, colourist Dave Stewart, and Letterer Clem Robins could be there! The first issue will be hitting the shops on Wednesday, 18 June, so there should be plenty of time to…

D.I.C.E. 2014
On Saturday the first wave of guests for D.I.C.E. (Dublin International Comic Expo) – 27 – 28 September, 2014 in Dundrum, Co. Dublin – were announced. I’m delighted to be part of the event, and among such great company. And that’s a terrific poster designed by Irish artist Phil Barrett who is also on the guest list.

MCM Ireland reviewed
My review of MCM Ireland Comic Con went up on the Forbidden Planet International blog today, along with some pictures I took at the event. You can see all my photos from the con on my Flickr stream, including photos of many of the Irish comic book creators who were at the event. By the way, have I mentioned that I have a Tumblr? I started it three years ago, but after a time I didn’t have the ability to maintain it along with my other various social media. Recently, I’ve gone back to updating it. It’s strictly focused on comics and art, so if that’s to your tastes you…

MCM Ireland
I was back on the RTÉ Radio 1 art’s show Arena last night, this time talking about the forthcoming MCM Ireland Comic Con, which is happening in Dublin this weekend for the first time. You can listen to my contribution online now: I come in around the 30 minute mark. I suspect MCM is going to be a popular event, especially as they have carpeted Dublin with posters, so everyone in the capital knows it’s going on. I’ll be there meeting friends and colleagues at the Comics Village, and generally checking out the event. The arrival of the MCM ‘brand’ into Ireland heralds that traditionally geeky interests are now mainstream.…

Holiday Laydeez
The third meeting of Laydeez do Comics – Dublin, will take place from 2.30pm – 5pm on Saturday, 30 November, 2013 in the 3rd floor bar of the Odessa Club, 13 Dame Court, Dublin 2 (not the rooftop bar on this occasion). Since we’re on the cusp of the holiday season we’re offering a bumper meeting, and this time it’s taking place during the day at the weekend to facilitate as many people as possible who want to travel to the meeting. Our guests will be Leeann Hamilton, Michael Carroll, and Gareth Gowran & Sadhbh Lawlor. In the spirit of gift-giving we’re also going to have a comic swap at the meeting: please bring along a comic…

Octocon 2013 schedule
It’s that time of the year again, which means I’ll be in The Camden Court Hotel in Dublin this weekend (12-13 October) attending one of my favourite conventions: Octocon. There are two terrific guests of honour that I’m very excited about meeting: comic book writer Gail Simone, and author Richard K Morgan. Both of them have created work I both enjoy and admire, so it will be a privilege to hear them talk about their interests. Here’s my schedule: Saturday 13:00 – Masterclass in Contemporary Fantasy (Pavilion) with Peadar Ó Guilín and Liz Bourke 15:00 – I Don’t Believe It, But It’s True (Abbey) with Ruth Frances Long, Leann Hamilton,…
