Storysellers Auction

Today marks the start of the #Storysellers auction, created by David Hendrick and Declan Shalvey, to raise funds to help Irish independent booksellers and comic book stores during this COVID-19 emergency period.

I’m delighted to offer a collection of items to contribute to this initiative. Independent book and comic book shops are hugely important to authors and readers, and I’m happy to aid in any way to support their survival during this extraordinary crisis.

Included in my auction lot is:

  • The 2000 AD Summer Sci-Fi Special magazine from 2018, which included my first Judge Anderson story, ‘SPA Day’, drawn by Emma Vieceli, coloured by Barbara Nosenzo, and lettered by Ellie De Ville. I’ll also include a printed copy of the script!
  • Psyche, the novella set in in the 2000 AD Judges series, which details the origins of the Psi-Division.
  • The paperback trade collection of the five-issue Sir Edward Grey: Witchfinder story, which I co-wrote with Kim Newman, with art by Tyler Crook, coloured by Dave Stewart, with a cover by Mike Mignola, lettered by Clem Robins, and published by Dark Horse Comics. All set in the Hellboy universe created by Mike Mignola.
  • My original short story collection, The Boughs Withered (When I Told Them My Dreams) which Mike Carey described as ‘Beautifully observed and incisively written.’
  • Plus… in a cotton tote decorated with adorable pugs, I’ll include a ‘Lucky Dip’ – a selection of items such as stickers, badges, and novelty items.

The opening bid starts at €70, and you can follow the bidding via my Twitter feed.

The highest bid received by midnight on Monday, 11 May wins the entire lot. You will have to send me a screenshot of your donation to the GoFund Me account within twelve hours to secure the lot, or it will go to the next highest bid.

I’ll sign everything of course – you can let me know after you win what you’d like me to inscribe on all the items.

All funds raised will be distributed to Irish independent booksellers and comic book stores.

If you have any questions, ask away in the comment section!
