I’m delighted that I’ve been invited back to be a guest at Enniskillen Comic Fest (1-2 May 2020), since I always enjoy a warm welcome at events in Northern Ireland. Organiser Paul Trimble and his dedicated staff at Enniskillen Comic Fest put on a wonderful show, usually themed around comics created from or influenced by 2000 AD.
This year they are celebrating a special anniversary in the British comics firmament.
2020 sees the 45th anniversary of Battle Picture Weekly, the hard hitting war comic which paved the way for Action (later merged with BPW as Battle-Action) and then 2000 AD. The first issue of Battle Picture Weekly was cover-dated 8th March 1975 and changed the face of British comics. ComicFest will be celebrating this milestone with some very special Guests and merchandise, details to follow.
Anyone familiar with British comics will recognise a lot of those names, and Ian Kennedy is quite rightly referred to simply as ‘Legend!’ on the poster. But there is a wide range of new and established comic book creators attending, with more being announced later.
I wonder if I can get on the winning team of the pub quiz again this year!
