Welcome to the web site for Maura McHugh – an author of horror and dark fantasy fiction living in the West of Ireland.

Maura writes across a variety of media, including prose, comic books, plays, and screenplays. She has written two collections: Twisted Fairy Tales and Twisted Myths, both published in the USA, and the non-fiction Midnight Movie Monograph of the iconic film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (which was nominated for a British Fantasy Award for Best Non-Fiction).

Her radio play, The Love of Small Appliances, was broadcast on NearFM in June 2019.

She also appears regularly on Irish radio discussing Pop Culture.

NewCon Press published the first collection of her original short stories – a mixture of previously published work along with new stories – with an introduction by Kim Newman. Titled The Boughs Withered (When I Told Them my Dreams), it was launched at Worldcon in Dublin in August 2019, and was nominated for a British Fantasy Award 2020 for Best Collection.

Her latest book is Psyche, part of the Judges series and set in the 2000 AD universe, and published by Abaddon Books.
